About A Cautious Man
After two decades working in a Dublin bank, the affable but cautious Moss Mortimer decides to take a year off from the rat race during the Celtic Tiger era. He surprises everyone by resigning from his job and moving out of the family home in Clontarf into a vacant flat in his house in Sandymount where he has three tenants.
Moss cherishes his newfound independence and frequents his favourite haunts including Neary’s pub, Bewley’s cafes, the cosmopolitan home of Dutch friend Valerie de Vries and his holiday home in Wexford. Meanwhile his sister Louise escalates her search for the perfect house, but her oppressively negative and jealous nature worsens, to the dismay of their reclusive, divorced mother Clare.
As the months go by, an entertaining and insightful portrayal of the intricacies of relationships is revealed, with emphasis on superficial friendships, begrudgery, the property ladder, workplace tensions, the drink culture and the consequences of resisting change and commitment.
