My name is Eileen Theresa O’Driscoll and this is the story of my life.
The Lord opened a gate of happiness in 1990, when my children, my husband Brian and myself, moved into Bandon from the countryside. I am happier living in this house than I have ever been in my life.
Brian always use to say that ‘a good, cheerful, coal fire is very welcoming when you enter a room. It is nicer to look at than the most expensive furniture’. On the mantle piece over the fireplace is a candle. Three quarters of it has melted away. I have reached that stage in my own life as a senior citizen at the age of 66, and as I relax have decided to write my story. This is the story of my life.
All my life, I have tried to cross the river, whether it was by rafts, barrels or whatever but I never reached the other side until I was fifty years old. I knew God by now, and I knew He was powerful. I was not His vessel when I floated across the river from side to side but I am now his vessel, and I carry God’s people from the water banks, where they have nearly drowned, to the dry banks on the other side.
